All-time ranking list

Postby chengdufan

Based on the data from the rankings revisit, I have decided to create an all-time ranking list. Starting today, I will post the top 200 players in the all-time rankings, announcing one player each day.

All-time ranking points are calculated as follows:
Your highest-ranked 3650 days (10 years) count towards your score.
Each day ranked number 1 gets you 128 points. Each day ranked number 2 gets you 127 points etc. Down to each day ranked at number 128, getting you 1 point.

The maximum number of points a player can get is 467200 (if they are ranked at number 1 for at least 3650 days). The minimum number of points is 1 (for one day spent ranked 128th).

Days up to the conclusion of the most recent ranking event are included in your all-time rank (so as of today, days up to August 22 2021 are included).

As of August 22 2021, 552 players have all-time ranking points.

Your link is a page link (which will not work using the picture button because you need an image link):

https://imgur.com/a/myuxcnD

you need to do right click on the image on the site and select 'copy picture adress' (or something along those lines in English)

then paste it here using the picture button:

the link is now different: https://i.imgur.com/IQfJ67T.png (this is the direct image link)

which gives:

Fantastic. Thanks Rekoons :-) I'll try again with tomorrow's player.

By the way, the 'English' I needed was: 复制图片网址 ;-)

This will take forever at the rate of one player per day. :| :? :-(
Try to do 10 a day or just do the top 50 players of all time. ;-)

Actually, it will take 200 days. :bubble:

Thank you for the suggestion; feedback is always welcome. I understand where you're coming from, but I'm in no rush. I'd like to give the forum time to digest the information about each player.

Player 199, John Read, is a good example of this. Despite him playing through most of the 90s, when the majority of our forum members were active snooker followers, I doubt many people remember him or indeed ever saw him play (I don't and didn't, and only remember him as a data point in the rankings revisit). I can't find any footage of him online and there is no photo of him on his Wiki page. And yet, he had a 10+ year snooker career and did well enough to be ranked 72nd on average during that career, making him one of the top 200 players of all time in the criteria used to form these rankings.
It would be good to hear from people who do remember him or did see him play.

Also, I'm much more interested in the rankings from 51-200 than those of the top 50 :-) though I can understand why others might not be. Rankings of the top few players have been done to death to be honest, and no one will ever agree on them.

Re: All-time ranking list

Postby chengdufan

For me, what the inclusion of John Read in this list highlights is how few top snooker players there have been in the last 40 years.

Re: All-time ranking list

Postby LDS

Yes, John Read also appears in my top 269 video on Youtube. He is also one of only the very few players of the modern era for whom I've found it literally impossible to find a decent picture of him during his playing days, the picture I have of him is of him in his 50s in lounge clothes. Which is really odd, because, as you note, he wasn't a total nobody and was around and competing for a very long time.

Re: All-time ranking list

Postby The_Abbott

Can't say I've heard of John Read but I guess he was around during the Hendry dominance period and I did get a tad bored of snooker at that time because I hated him winning everything! - that could count for that so only watched the main TV events.

Oh, I have as picture of John Bear in snookering action no less. I’m not sure how to post it here though. It’s in an old book from the 80s. I can get it from book to phone but not sure what to do next :chin:
