Ding Junhui won a third consecutive ranking title, the first time this had been achieved since 1993. In beating Marco Fu in the final, it was also the third consecutive all-Asian ranking event final.
Ding went 3-1 down early on, but recovered to win 10-9 compiling 5 century breaks and 2 90+ers.
16-year-old wildcard, Zhao Xintong, defeated Barry Hawkins to reach the last 16.
My memory of this event is being excited to get tickets to see Steve Davis v Craig Steadman in the opening round. I saw it as probably the last opportunity to watch Davis play a competitive match, and it would be against Steadman who is from my hometown.
I was bitterly disappointed that The Nugget then got drawn to play a wildcard and subsequently lost!
I did get quite an enjoyable experience though watching Zhao Xintong produce some amazing snooker (for a 16-year-old) to beat Steadman 6-2, with breaks of 109, 94, 72, 67 and 50.
