At the age of 42, Mark King won his only ranking title. He didn't face any of the very top players en route to the final against Barry Hawkins, but he did beat top 16 players Liang Wenbo and Kyren Wilson. In the final, King found himself 5-1 down, but won the next 6 frames to lead 7-5. He eventually won 9-8 in a decider.

It was another good run for Yan Bingtao who made it to the last 16, and it was something of a breakthrough event for Hossein Vafaei, who reached the quarter-finals. It must be said though that Vafaei's set of opponents was one of the weakest I've seen: Rod Lawler, Zak Surety, Sanderson Lam and Scott Donaldson.

QFs
Mark King (28) 5-3 Hossein Vafaei (106)
Kyren Wilson (12) 5-4 Mark Williams (18)
Barry Hawkins (10) 5-2 Michael White (33)
Anthony Hamilton (54) 5-2 Mark Allen (8)

SFs
King (28) 6-2 Wilson (12)
Hawkins (10) 6-5 Hamilton (54)

Final
King (28) 9-8 Hawkins (10)

It's can't be overstated how impressive this is when you consider that he doesn't get a great deal of time for snooker practice, what with laying down jazz-funk bass stylings in Level 42.

Marco Fu won his third and (to date) final ranking title. He achieved it by impressively coming back in the final from 4-1 down to beat John Higgins 9-4. This was after Higgins had compiled century breaks in each of the first 3 frames, along with a 78 to go 4-1 up.

2017 German Masters - Tempodrom, Berlin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_German_Masters

As we move into 2017, 45 year-old Anthony Hamilton wins a ranking event for the first time and at the same time becomes the third oldest ranking event winner ever (behind Ray Reardon and Doug Mountjoy).
He had an incredibly tough run to win the title, beating Anthony McGill in qualifying and top 16 players in every round at the venue (Mark Williams, Mark Selby, Barry Hawkins, Stuart Bingham and Ali Carter). In terms of opponent ranking, this appears to me to be the toughest ever run to a ranking title (happy to be corrected).

16 year-old Yan Bingtao continues his speedy rise up the rankings after beating Shaun Murphy, Sam Baird, Dominic Dale and Michael Holt to reach the quarter-finals.

QFs
Martin Gould (21) 5-2 Ryan Day (20)
