This was the final ranking event of 2017 and the 12th of 20 in the 17-18 season.

Cao Yupeng reached a final for the first time and led Neil Robertson 8-4. The Thunder produced a comeback though, taking the next 5 frames for a 9-8 win.

Mark Selby didn't enter while Ding lost to Rory McLeod int he last 32.

Cao bottled that final, he had a few chances to win it. Between that and the NI Open final, this season really felt like a watershed moment for the young Chinese contingent.

Unfortunately it didn’t really work out that way especially with Cao being banned not long after. Thankfully, Yan has since started to fulfil his promise in a huge way.

Mark Williams won his second event of the season and became the fifth player to reach 20 ranking titles. He demolished Graeme Dott 9-1 in the final. This was Dott's first final since 2010.

Mark Selby lost to Xiao Guodong in the last 32. I'm beginning to think Mark Williams may be ranked number one at the end of the season.

2018 World Grand Prix - Guild Hall, Preston

Ronnie O'Sullivan continued his stellar season, winning his fourth ranking event. He is leaping up towards Stephen Hendry on the ranking title roll of honour this year.
The final was close early on, with The Rocket leading 4-3 after 7 frames. He then won the next 6 though, completing a commanding 10-3 victory.

The biggest shocks came in the first round (last 32), with Michael White beating Judd Trump 4-1, and Michael Georgiou whitewashing Luca Brecel.

Top 16 players Marco Fu and Barry Hawkins (the defending champion) were not among the 32 qualifiers from this year's one-year ranking list.

Just as it was looking like someone might challenge Mark Selby for the number one spot, he won the China Open, thrashing Barry Hawkins 11-3 in the final!

His closest contender, Ronnie O'Sullivan, lost to Elliott Slessor for the second time this season, this time in the last 64. Judd Trump was knocked out in qualifying, losing to Jak Jones. And Higgins could only get as far as the last 32, losing out to the in-form Jack Lisowski.

Wildcard amateur Luo Honghao had a notable run, beating Anthony McGill to reach the last 16.

Neil Robertson won the first ranking event of the season for a fourth time in six years. He beat Jack Lisowski in the Cheltonian's first final.

5 of the top 6 players did not enter, World Champion Mark Williams being the only member of that group to take part. Williams had a shock last 64 exit to Zhang Yong, who hails from Ningling in North-Central China's Henan Province.

Stuart Carrington reached his first semi-final, though the highest ranked player he beat was 42nd placed Chris Wakelin.
