Mark Williams won his 17th ranking title, beating Ding Junhui in the final. Ding led the match 5-3, but Williams eventually won 10-6.
Ding compiled 9 century breaks in the competition, with his nearest rivals Neil Robertson and Mark Williams only making 3 each. To be fair to the Thunder from Down Under, he only won 6 frames in total, and one of his three centuries was a maximum.

It was a poor event for Higgins and O'Sullivan. John was knocked out by Williams in the last 16 while O'Sullivan lost to wildcard, Tian Pengfei, in the opening round.

QFs
Ding Junhui (7) 5-2 Peter Ebdon (18)

Yes, 09-10 has been quite a comeback year for Drago. After dropping off the tour for a year, he got his place back by winning the 'European play-off' (I'm not sure of the details).
In the 6 events this season, he got to the last 64 4 times and the last 32 twice.
He's easily been the strongest performer of the new players on tour, and has even moved ahead of Judd Trump in the rankings.
His best result was probably his 5-2 win over Stephen Lee in the last 48 of the China Open, assuming Lee wasn't cheating in that one. Drago did make breaks of 122, 75 and 65 in that match.

I think this was a secondary European Amateur Championship that was played from 2006-10, exclusively for mainland European players (i.e. non-UK or Irish) to qualify for the Main Tour.

Thanks for the links Fridge.
Looks like the Brazilians Itaro Santos and Igor Figueiredo played in this too, as well as a number of former professionals.

A shame Coen Fool never made it on tour.

It looks like we have 96 professionals again for the 10-11 season, and they will compete in 7 ranking events. The same seeded 96-80-64-48-32 format will apply.

There will also be 12 PTC events contributing to these rankings, with amateur qualifiers joining the pros in flat 128 draws.

The best 24 performers will play in the PTC Grand Finals

I watched all of it. I can't believe how old the footage looks, I'd already been in China ages at that point :hmmm:

Tian Pengfei's technique looked horrendous! Amazing how different his stroke looks nowadays.

And Ronnie. How about that stubble? Looked like a classic American B movie villain! And yes, quite the way to lose a match!!

Re: Rankings revisit - a trip through history

Postby chengdufan

So we actually have 97 professionals for the 10-11 season, not 96 as I stated earlier. And as well as the new set of PTC events, another new innovation is that the official rankings will be updated during the season. There will be 3 official ranking updates (after the European PTC 2 in early October; after the UK Championship in late December; and after the Welsh Open in late February).

The increase in the number of tournaments and the updated official rankings (seedings) during the season significantly improve the validity of the rankings in this rankings revisit. Our rankings have been much better than the official rankings up to this point, but have not been statistically valid. The accuracy of the rankings will steadily improve from here on out, and by around the end of 2012 we will have very accurate rankings for about the top 100 players

74 players kept their professional status from 09-10, while 22 dropped off the tour

Liu Song (80), Joe Jogia (84), and Ben Woollaston (85) are the lowest ranked players keeping their status.

Here are the 22 who dropped off:
Li Hang 64
Jin Long 66
Lee Spick 70
Daniel Wells 71
David Gray 73
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 75
Atthasit Mahitthi 78

Chinese players Li Hang and Jin Long appear to have been the unluckiest to have lost their status.
John Parrott has played his last professional match.

13 former professionals return to the tour:
Jamie Jones (b.1988) - PIOS Tour
Andrew Pagett (b.1982) - Welsh nomination
Paul Davison (b.1971) - PIOS Tour
Alfie Burden (b.1976) - World Amateur Champion
