Judd's been doing well in these new PTCs and he's up to 18th in the rankings. Him and Jack Lisowski (and Barry Pinches) are the game's future it seems

2010 Shanghai Masters - Shanghai Grand Stage
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Shanghai_Masters

This was the first of 8 full ranking events on the calendar.

Ali Carter won his second (of four to date) ranking final. His toughest opponent on paper was Mark Selby, who he met in the semi-finals, though he easily won that match 5-2. His closest match was a 5-4 win over Matthew Stevens in the quarters; Carter won the deciding frame 63-57 after being 4-1 down.

The Captain's opponent in the final was Jamie Burnett, who was reaching that stage for the first time. Burnett benefitted from his first round opponent, Ronnie O'Sullivan, withdrawing due to personal reasons. He beat Tian Pengfei, Andrew Higginson, Mark Davis and Jamie Cope to reach the final.

QFs:
Jamie Burnett (58) 5-4 Mark Davis (12)
Jamie Cope (17) 5-2 Graeme Dott (10)
Ali Carter (5) 5-4 Matthew Stevens (28)
Mark Selby (4) 5-1 Mark King (45)

SFs:
Burnett (58) 6-1 Cope (17)
Carter (5) 6-2 Selby (4)

Final:
Carter (5) 10-7 Burnett (58)

2010 World Open - Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_World_Open_(snooker)

The second full ranking event on the calendar was played as best of 5s with a random draw up to the semi-finals.
The final was a best of 9.

Neil Robertson played in his sixth final and won his sixth title, beating O'Sullivan 5-1.

Ronnie had earlier made a controversial 147 break. In his match with Mark King, after potting 2 reds and blacks, he asked what the prize money for making a maximum was. He then waited to continue the break until he was told there was no 147 prize, only the high-break prize. He proceeded to clear up to the final black and then refused to pot it. However, Jan Verhaas eventually persuaded him to knock it in to complete the break.

QFs:
Mark Williams (6) 3-2 Ding Junhui (7)
Peter Ebdon (28) 3-1 Martin Gould (21)
Ronnie O'Sullivan (2) 3-1 Stephen Maguire (9)
Neil Robertson (3) 3-1 Ricky Walden (25)

SFs:
O'Sullivan (2) 3-1 Ebdon (28)
Robertson (3) 3-2 Williams (6)

Final:
Robertson (3) 5-1 O'Sullivan (2)

The World Open was modelled slightly on the UK Open in darts which also had an open draw and a similar format. The Grand Prix did have an open draw too but apart from that it was the same as normal. Copying darts was a trend at the time as within a few months we would have Power Snooker (which in it's first year had a stage setup similar to darts) and the Shootout (which had the 'atmosphere').

This was also the end of the fourth BBC event in the Autumn which had been around for around 30 years.

Yes, he's done well in the PTCs. He's lost his first match in qualifying for the UK Championship though (9-8 to Mark Joyce), so will drop out of the 16 after just under 1 month in it.

We had an absolute belter of a final in this tournament, with Mark Williams leading 7-2 and 9-5 before eventually losing 10-9 in the deciding frame against John Higgins.

World Champion, Neil Robertson, was beaten by Shaun Murphy in the quarter-finals.
The member of the class of 92 who didn't make the final fell to Stuart Bingham in the 1st round.

The surprise package was Mark Joyce, who beat Ali Carter and Judd Trump on his way to the quarter-finals.

Williams made a habit of losing leads in important matches at that time. He had numerous chances to go 5 clear against Higgins in the 2011 World semi-final. He also lost from 9-7 against Selby in the 2011 Shangai Masters final, and seemed to lose his composure completely after a borderline decision about red or pink contact when escaping from a snooker.

It was starting to look all too familiar when Higgins drew back to 15-15 in the 2018 World Final ...
