Northern Ireland open final in 2016 was a good one between Mark King and Barry Hawkins. I think it finished late. I actually had the following day off work.

I remember that match.

Isn't this just general snooker memories?

It was on Eurosport, technically. I'll allow matches that you watched on the channel as being a memory.

I mean, technically even stuff that's on the BBC would be on Eurosport as well, I suppose. So that might be considered more of a general memory than just a Eurosport exclusive one.

But if we just talk of our memories of watching the channel generally, it'd get a bit dull after a while.

That's weird, it's like saying I visited London on a train and then told someone about my visit, I'm not going to be banging on about the train am I?

I know you would....but still <laugh>

I'm not sure that's the same thing though, is it?

I mean what are you expecting? Just people to say; "I remember sitting down and watching the Northern Ireland Open final on Eurosport", then it's the end of the anecdote? There will surely be some crossover mentions as to what matches we were watching.

I remember sitting down and wataching the Regal Scottish Masters Final on Eurosport.

And that’s the end of the anecdote.

No I expect people to talk about a memory of ES doing something, not just televising a snooker match, in that context ES just becomes a means to an end.

Like what HC just posted, that's a ES memory.

Re: RIP Eurosport

I remember when Wild kicked off at people apparently posting early frame scores and it turned out he was watching on catch-up about two hours behind. Not sure if Eurosport was involved, but very funny nonetheless <laugh>

I know what you mean, but is that really that big a deal?

Posting a match that meant something to you on Eurosport is kind of fine. I mean, I get that we don't just want a whole thread of; "This match was good, that match was good". So maybe we can have a rule of some context of what you were doing, or why it meant a lot to you. (Like my Mark Williams example in the opening post). Rather than just listing matches that you enjoyed.

This conversation has made me remember the time Eurosport somehow started play MMMBop by Hanson rather than commentary. rofl

Re: RIP Eurosport

I remember the time I had a meltdown on here because ES only showed the first session of a final and you had to pay for the app to watch the remainder.

Also I remember getting really annoyed when they'd blab the scores from ES2 coverage (which I would often record to watch later).

mantorok wrote:So I thought I'd switch over to Eurotrash and within 30 seconds that idiot commentating has just blabbed the scores on the other table - EVEN THOUGH EUROSPORT-2 IS COVERING THE MATCH LIVE ANYWAY - WHY???????????

Remember how they ruined our lives with the DHL adverts?

"Little, by little, by little, by more..... Keeping Up With The Clicks." <laugh>

Eurosport were good at repeating adverts over and over again.

It was never quite as repetetive as the Incredible India / Turkish Airlines days, but you'd still get some adverts that were over and over again. One of the tournaments just before Christmas had that "Son Of Nutcracker" advert, which they liked to play often. I think it was for Sky Cinema, or something similar.

I remember one from a long time ago, where they had some anti-smoking campaigners pay for a commercial to run constantly. There was this teenage girl, who was a bit too scared to admit to her friends that she didn't smoke. So whenever at a party, she would get offered a cigarette and then turn to snog the person next to her to avoid having to say no. Then at the end, she turned to her left and two people were already snogging and turned to her right and it was another girl. So she looked confused as to what she should do. Then it was like; "Poor girl. She should just say no." <laugh>

Having her look awkward at the idea of kissing another girl probably wouldn't fly on today's telly.

2000. Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stephen Hendry.

O’Sullivan won, and that would have pleased me at the time. With hindsight, I should have been wanting Hendry.

And *that* is where the anecdote ends.

Ed to blame for Hendry losing.

Yeah, right Judders. If I had that kind of alchemy, I’d be a millionaire (and Jimmy White would’ve been a World Champion)

I started watching Snooker at the 2005 World Champs, and of course Eurosport was the main reason to get involved.

One of the fondest memories I have is, for a few years, having Snooker on both channels at the same time, I remember putting Snooker on split screen on my TV watching the World Champs. Now that was something!

Then they moved to ES Player which was still ok. But now, with Max and TNT Sports, I'm afraid it's the final nail in the coffin.

I remember when they used to do that. You'd have one match on Eurosport 1 and one on Eurosport 2.

I think they stopped doing that as a drive to get people to subscribe to Discovery+, even if they had the channels on their TV package.

It's available yes. Since ES Player ended and they started with Max, many people who used to subscribe to ES Player like me will no longer do it because Max is just way too expensive, similar to TNT Sports in the UK.

It's a shame this happened, but I guess we live in a society when money speaks louder, just look at the Bond franshise being sold to Amazon.

Re: RIP Eurosport

McManus mentioning Diana Ross and jimmy White saying he can't work under these conditions were probably the best Eurosport moments.
