"Snooker player Stephen Lee has been banned for 12 years after being found guilty of seven match-fixing charges. Lee, 38, of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, has also been told to pay £40,000 costs. The former world number five cannot play in any game sanctioned by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA)."

He was charged with seven match fixing offenses. 12 divided by 7 is: 1.7
So you can look at it as a 1.7 year ban for each incident of match fixing!

12 years is a slap on the wrist . Is the game so corrupt the governing body can't make an example of someone ?

Really, his career is finished. He's hardly likely to come back to compete aged 50.

They might as well have just given him a life-time ban.

Will he get time off for good behaviour?
Well at least he didn't get a 12 year ban from from eating burgers and chips. That must be a relief for him.

The ban is calculated from 12 October 2012, when an interim suspension was imposed, and means Lee will not be able to compete as a professional snooker player before 12 October 2024, the date of his 50th birthday.
Maybe they'll let him play in the Snooker Seniors?

A silly boy, hopefully this will set an example and match fixing accusations will be a thing of the past.

Repeating myself a bit, but this had to be settled under the rules put in place by them old regime, as they were the rules when the offenses took place. The current rules I'm told make lifetime ban the default, which can only be reduced if there are extenuating circumstances.
In my view now up to World Snooker to circulate something now to the players (and to new players in the future) making that clear.

So on that score I think they should bring up the PL match against Higgins to get the sentenced increased.
Have you seen this?

Which one? Any of the three that chose not to represent him? Or someone else? LOL
It should also be noted that WPBSA did not give the sanction. The 12 year ban comes from an independent body. I am sure if WPBSA had their way, they would give him a life-time ban. Can WPBSA appeal that the penalty is too lenient?

Your usual analytical self GJ
Is that a dig at Hann's 8 years
12 years is fine. It's effectively a life ban. If Lee has any sense he'll pay up, shut up and go get a visa to play pool on the US tour if they'll have him. I'm surprised he even gave an interview.

Yeah it's very amusing watching his old matches on youtube where he huffs and puffs everytime he misses an easy pot . I've seen more convincing ,less emphatic acting in tacky 1980s porn films

so a 16 year old can be back playing snooker at 28.
absolute farcical
Ban him and make it clear for everyone of all ages that its not going to be tolerated yes Lee will be 50 but that shouldn't come in to it.

Yea, it's overacting at it's worst!
12 years is basically a life ban. I wonder will he be allowed to enter non WPBSA events? I don't know a whole lot about the Armstrong case but he can't enter any kind of cycling event ever again, is that right? If so Can Lee suffer the same fate (for the next 12 years)

Lee has nothing to lose now, He is going to spill the beans now, and make Hearn regret the day he brought Lee to court. A lot more damage will have been done to the game by the time Lee is through. He is going to give them hell. A lot of players will be running for cover by the time Lee has finished venting his spleen.
Go on Stephen. Give it to them with both barrels!
Stephen Lee(The Rolls Royce cue action of the green baize game with 22 balls).
Hearn and his rag, tag, and bobtails.

No, I was wondering that too. I guess it'll be The Sun or something like that.
Obviously you feel sorry for his family but also you feel sorry for players like Mark King who said:
"At the end of the day, he beat me 9-4 and I had given him a frame start. It is quite frustrating and hurtful. I was there trying my best and him gaining financially for letting me win the first frame maybe let him relax a bit more because he had X amount of pounds in his pocket."

He's more likely to protest his innocence and give a sob story about what he's been through in the last 11 months judging by his interview on the BBC.

I hope he gets a massive payout, and sets up a breakaway tour with Quentin Hann, Peter Francisco, Jimmy White, Tony Knowles, Kirk Stevens, Steve James, and David Roe.

What I don't understand is that this case was resolved on the 'balance of probabilities' that is allowed in a civil case, rather than a criminal case. I'm no legal expert, but isn't this a dangerous game to go down?

Caught somewhere in between feeling sorry for Lee, a desperate man who did some pretty desperate deeds to feed a wife and four kids, and wishing he had got the lifetime ban his actions probably warranted.

I'm sure there were a lot of players who were a lot worse off than him financially who didn't resort to match fixing.
