Every sport has its crowd pleasers, the ones that stand out from the crowd. Obviously Ronnie is one in snooker but it's wrong to think people want to see tournaments with only these players involved. Imagine if Tiger Woods decided to run his own golf tournaments and picked players like Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy etc and forbade those players who "make up the numbers" including your Jim Furyk's and David Toms - proven winners whose mental strength take them to titles over their natural ability.
It's nonsense, meaningless. It's exhibition stuff not competition with any meaning. Of course they would make money but so does the Snooker Legends. If Dennis Taylor wins a Snooker Legends night, no one gives a buck! And that's the point. Ronnie wants to play on his terms against the players he wants to play against.
It is with a great deal of irony that this news breaks on the day where the latest ranking tournament has perhaps the least appealing line up in recent history as if to strengthen his point. You have to laugh really.

Hard to believe it with our weather, but it is now the middle of summer and snooker does not have the appeal in the summer. It should remain a mainly winter sport. Yes have more tournaments and PTCs are the way to do it, but I think we have reached saturation with a tournament in June !!

Right but if you have cricket being played, or the sun is out, or you are in holiday mode - you can see why there is little interest or appetite for events like this weeks. A defined summer break is essential - just like with football and rugby. You need a break. Separately I'd be interested to know the EuroSport viewing figures for the Wuxi compared to other tournies and see how sharp the decline in figures is.

Not having read the players contract I am not sure that what I write next is correct but I'll throw it open to debate anyway. If Ronnie signs the players contract when the next Tournaments are due to be paid and he is asked (we all know he will be) about his comments surely anything he says regarding it would be subject to disciplinary action by the WSA.

Thing is that's not the point snooker should be looking towards having a all year round fan-base and if its only on during our winter then when other countries have their winter there's no snooker on.
now with Liveworldsnooker.tv contract it doesn't matter which part of the world your in Snooker will be on the internet i just think too many Brits are short sighted and don't appreciate that others watch snooker.
Take the World Final its Sunday and Monday but in many countries the Monday isn't a Bank Holiday and therefore they have to go to work and miss the conclusion of the Final. World Snooker has to look further than Britain in making decisions in future.

I disagree strongly, all sports benefit from an off-season - it serves as a time to refresh for players and fans alike. As for foreign tournaments, fine but bare minimum JUNE and JULY should be totally devoid of snooker tournies ANYWHERE.

From the
Daily Star:
RONNIE O'SULLIVAN has explosively hit back at his critics, insisting: “I’m no money grabber.”
The Rocket, 36, is currently out in the cold, despite claiming a brilliant fourth world title at Sheffield in May.
The contract rebel is the only player not to sign the World Snooker terms for this season.
And that meant the tour campaign started last week in China with the sport’s biggest star on the sidelines.
O’Sullivan reckons the top names deserve red-carpet treatment for putting bums on seats.
But he is at loggerheads with supremo Barry Hearn and has been slammed by fans and rivals for his stance.
However, in a triple blast, the Essex Exocet denies he is a mercenary, says no one has been a better advert for snooker, and insists he would tough it out for TWO years.
World No.9 O’Sullivan, who beat Ali Carter 18-11 in the world final at the Crucible, said: “It’s basically not about money at all.
“People don’t know the facts. I just want to turn up and play snooker. My appetite is back, I could have eight years left.
“If it was only about money I wouldn’t play. The money isn’t so great in snooker and I have some banked away.
“It’s about being valued, I feel I am used more than other players and dictated to, threatened and fined. I believe others feel the same, but I’ve had the balls to say it.”
And in a go at his critics, he added: “People who say I am not a good ambassador for snooker are talking b******s.
“Some players are in it only for the money, want to be a celebrity and are happy coming second.
“I don’t, I’m a winner. I would sign the contract tomorrow for no more money if I didn’t have to do all the extra things, arrive four days early at an event, or sign autographs until 2am.
“But if they do want me to do all that as well as playing, then there is a value and they should recognise that.
“The only hope I can give them is that in two years maybe Barry has got it sorted out, things are fair and he realises he has made a rick.

That interview makes it worse for me.
Signing autographs till 2am, yeah right.
I bet he didnt mind signing copies of his book when that was published, of course there was something in it for him there.

Must be a pain though if you're knackered after a long match and just want to go to bed to get ready for your next match and have to hang around for another hour to sit down and scribble your initials. That said, if you win the tournament you should stick around for a bit and please the fans and should be in a good mood to do it and be up for it.

Sorry I dont buy into that at all. Compare someone like Gouldy with ROS. Gouldy is a top pro, but he is not detached from reality - he can have a laugh, would happily sign a autograph or play you at pool or have a photo. Christ sake all ROS does is play snooker and asking him for an autograph is something EXTRA that warrants a money incentive.
Absolute bullocks....and he says he is not a money grabber, well that interview just proved he is.

So basically he likes the title of World Champion and the perks it gives but doesn't want the extra responsibility of meeting fans and signing autographs without being paid for it. Funny how none of the other champions before him made such a fuss.

Sorry but that's nothing new this isnt exclusively Barry Hearn christ its gone on from year Dot Ronnie is just being a bit of a hammer no getting away from it.
Snooker Players are expected to do the PR For their sport.
ive said before that i was in meet and greet with Ronnie Before the PL Ronnie couldn't be bothered which left genuine fans of him saying "wont come to watch that Bastard again" its part and parcel of being a Top Sport star and as World Champion the demands on Him should be GREATER than anyone else.

Hearn has done nothing wrong.
he cant start to bend for one player or the top players he has responsibility to everyone.
and if that means by making a star name jump through hoops so that sponsorship feels it worth investing in snooker then so be it.

When you do something wrong, make a mistake.
That's what Ronnie is referring too. If you look at the sentence again, understanding the terminology now, you'll understand what he's saying to big bad bazza.

The last thing snooker needs is a darts-style split. People can laugh, but the origins of the PDC were the Top 16 breaking away and forming their own tournaments. Obviously their motives were far different that ROS etc; just using it as an example.
