If World snooker are announcing the verdict at 2pm its logical to think Higgins knows his fate by now.

Exactly ,It is not a cut and dried situation.
More of a clumsy dabble into things he was ill advised to do.

Why does everyone keep drawing comparisons with Quinten Hann? The two cases are unrelated.

Not even close, hann was banned for conspiring to fix a match and did not defend himself.
The WPBSA withdrew their charge of frame fixing at John after they viewed the FULL VIDEO and held an investigation.

Hold on chaps , let's not rewrite history . John Higgins has been found NOT GUILTY of " Match fixing "
He has been found GUILTY of breaching rules on discussing betting and for failing to report a party trying to instigate corruption in the game
Perhaps the investigation will bring to light the reason they found Higgins NOT GUILTY of match fixing ? Are they allowed to do that . I'm also looking forward to the upcoming libel case Higgins will be taking against NOTW . I mean that's what happens when people are stiched up by tabloids isn't it ? - They sue
Though something tells me there's no way Higgins will be taking the paper to court , especially since he's been found GUILTY of breaking the game's guidelines

I think it's fairly obvious what happened from reading his QC's statement.

http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... tough.htmlI would urge Douglas to institute a cold case review of previous matches thought to be dodgy and take the appropriate action against any offenders.
It should be remembered that Higgins was filmed agreeing to fix future matches but there are players competing now on the circuit thought to have actually manipulated results.
For the good of the sport, they should be thoroughly investigated.
i totally 110% agree with dave there.
we need to take a big brush through the sport and sweep it clean.

David Hendon
12 Sep 2010
John Higgins will not be competing in the World Open at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow this week but the issues surrounding his suspension and the subsequent verdict will hang heavy in the air. The bad news for snooker is that the headlines may get even worse.
Match fixing and bribery charges against Higgins were withdrawn before the tribunal convened and he was found guilty instead of failure to report an approach to match fix and bringing the game into disrepute.
Higgins, who was fined £75,000 by the tribunal, has missed the closing date for entries for all events until next February’s Welsh Open while suspended but World Snooker, the game’s governing body, has made an exception and he will be back on TV screens at the UK Championship in December.
The three times world champion was caught agreeing to throw frames for money by an undercover newspaper sting but had his explanation that he was playing along with the scam because he feared for his safety accepted. His former manager, Pat Mooney, was described by Ian Mill QC, the tribunal head, as having committed “the most egregious betrayals of trust” by putting Higgins in the position where his career hung in the balance.
But while Higgins can attempt to rebuild his battered reputation, two other Scottish players are still waiting to hear whether a criminal investigation into a match they played two years ago will lead to prosecution. At the UK Championship in Telford in December 2008, Stephen Maguire beat Jamie Burnett 9-3. Given the gulf in career success and their respective rankings, such a result would not ordinarily have raised eyebrows but bookmakers were alarmed by suspicious patterns of betting on this scoreline and the police were called in. Speculation about the result was fuelled when Burnett missed the last black of the 12th frame by the proverbial country mile with a chance to make it 8-4.
The players were interviewed by officers from Strathclyde Police’s economic crime unit in April 2009, a few days before they were to play each other in the first round of the World Championship.
In August of last year, Maguire and Burnett were detained and questioned further before being released without charge. A report on the case has been passed to the Procurator Fiscal who will decide how to proceed.
Barry Hearn, chairman of World Snooker Ltd, who took the original decision to suspend Higgins on the day the story broke, is setting up an anti-corruption unit to tackle a problem many in snooker feel has been ignored for too long. It will be headed by David Douglas, a former Metropolitan Police detective chief superintendent. Lord Stevens, a former Met commissioner, is expected to have a role having been invited to the World Open where more detail is expected to be given as to what steps the governing body will put in place to stamp out cheating.
“The new integrity unit will act as a powerful deterrent to any player, manager or agent who seeks to behave improperly,” said Hearn.
Snooker, unlike many other sports, does not have a problem with drugs or players trying to con the referee but the growth in online gambling his increased the temptation and opportunity for cheating. Punters can bet on every conceivable aspect of a match, including the winner of each frame, first colour potted and the amount of 50-plus breaks. There are fears that a small minority of players have been involved in deliberately missing balls as part of gambling coups.
Snooker has come to depend on the betting industry since the loss of tobacco money through government decree. The World Championship is backed by Betfred.com and the World Open will be sponsored by 12bet.com. Bookmaking firms, though, will only continue to support the sport if Hearn can convince them he has eradicated both actual fixing and any suspicions that matches are not contested honestly.
Meanwhile, Maguire and Burnett wait to see if their case will move forward to a criminal trial. The prospect of snooker professionals facing jail would be another hammer blow to the sport’s integrity but it would surely also discourage any player from the temptation to parakeet in the future.
