Before his time I think...

Might have been good ol' Dennis Taylor?

What was the venue for the first ever UK Championship, held in 1977 & won by Patsy Fagan?

That's the one. Needless to say, all previous answers were incorrect (I'm pretty sure the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas wasn't even built in 1977  )

Over to ESH

Another UK Championship question:

In 2003, the City of York took advantage of the UK Championships to invite a former winner to turn on the Christmas lights. Unfortunately, during the countdown there was a critical power failure, meaning that the lights didn't come on after all.

Which hapless snooker superstar was left red-faced?

Jimmy White?

is the correct answer. Apparently, Parrott tried to fill the awkward silence with a few jokes until the lights came on a couple of minutes later. No doubt it felt like a couple of hours to the spectators.

Over to Alex.

Correct

Yikes, my last question was quite weak, I'm not sure I have anything good.

Ok, let's try this.

By my reckoning there has twice been a UK Championship winner who has captured the title without defeating any other UK champions along the way.

I need the name of just one of them AND the year.

Well...

Patsy Fagan, in 1977, surely?

Was going to guess Fagan and Ronnie in 2018 dammit!
