There maybe more than one but I know of only one so which players faced each other in the first round of The World Championships at The Crucible in successive years?

It wasn't the one I thought of but it is correct. And they also played in the last 16 the year before. Good answer.

They played in 81 and 82, and in 82 it was the 2nd round. So not correct.
I had another one in mind, but maybe there are more anyway.

I think I have come up with 2 of these :
Steve Davis & Peter Ebdon - 1992 & 93
Willie Thorne & Stephen Hendry 1986 & 87

Raphael already won the quiz with Drago and Stevens. There were a few more than I thought.
Yes you're right about Davis/Edbon and Hendry/Thorne. I have also remembered O'Sullivan/Maguire in 04/05.
The one I had thought of originally was Foulds/Wayne Jones in 88/89 but now I realise there were many answers!
Anyway Raphael won this round.

Cheers Vodkadiet. Who was the only non-Irish player in the semi-finals of the 1987 Irish Professional Snooker Championship?

Shocked. I didn't think it would be right; I just thought because of '85 and the number of matches he'd played there, there was a slight chance he'd be the man.
I'll be back with a question a bit later; like an Oscar winner, I had nothing prepared...

Who did Steve Robinson beat in his first defence of the WBO Featherweight title in 1993?

Prince Naseem? He was Ronnie’s mate so that could be the connection.
