Superb Mr. DuFan
These were the national champions in the 88/89 season, the last in which all four home nations held them.
John Rea was the Scottish Champion, he achieved a 147 break along the way to the title, becoming the first Scot to hit one in professional play. He now runs the Lucky Break Club in Clydebank, which hosted a one-off revival of the Scottish Professional Championship in 2011, won by John Higgins.

Would it be considered as cheating looking at the rankings of the current 128 players and guessing a likely player from that list?

Woo!
Dave Gilbert’s walk-on is Insomnia by Faithless. Who were the two UK Championship finalists during the year of Insomnia’s original release?

Hmmmm I think Insomnia was out in 1995 but I'm not 100% certain. Stephen Hendry won the UK championship that year and I think it was Peter Ebdon that was runner up.
