I think it took the Hawk about seven visits before he won a match at the Crucible.
Going to check and report back...

Barry Hawkins Crucible record (the early days) :
2006 : Ken Doherty (L 1-10)
2007 : Fergal O'Brien (L 9-10)
2008 : Allister Carter (L 9-10)
2009 : Graeme Dott (L 8-10)
2010 : John Higgins (L 6-10)
2011 : Stephen Maguire (W 10-9)
Since 2011 : runner-up in 2013, 4 semi final exits & a QF defeat
Hard to think of any other player who has struggled to win a match there, but since breaking their duck has then proved to be a consistent performer.
An interesting record.

It's very interesting indeed. Only thing missing is the title, but he needs to sort out his consistency. No point beating a top player in Beast Mode, only to fall apart in the next round.

Rhys Clark: A pro for four years, last played in q school in 2015, which he won, beating Leo Fernandez in his final.

A clue.
Aside from the top ranked player, Ross Bulman, the top 5 was made up of 2 Chinese competitors, one English former pro, and a mainland European.

Andreas Ploner is a good shout. However, despite winning 8 matches over the three events he didn't make the top 5.
Barry Pinches is a pro, having won q school 3 last year. Interestingly, he lost in the first round of q school 2 to Saudi, Omar Alajlani.

I hadn't realised. Can't have made much of an impression then
I knew Andy Hicks and Gerard Greene had snuck back on...
How about Brian Cini and Simon Bedford then?

Pinches has won 3 of his 16 matches since returning to the tour, against Milkins, Andy Lee, and Bond.
Brian Cini had some tough draws in q school last year, losing to current or former pros in all 3 events, he only managed to win 3 matches. He finished 71st on the order of merit.
Simon Bedford fared slightly better, finishing 57th.

Clue 2
The 38 year old Englishman we're looking for's most recent stint on tour was 16/17+17/18. Prior to that, he hadn't been a pro since 2010.

Alternative question, which is probably more difficult than the q school one.
A correct answer to either can move the quiz along.
2 players who are now over 60 have been professionals at some point in the last 10 years. Steve Davis is one, who's the other?

I will try Patrick Einsle & Paul S. Davison for the original question.
For the 60+ player, Dessie Sheehan?

Patrick Einsle has never entered q school.
