Surprisingly few meetings between Fu & Perry - just 7 in all - and never at the Crucible.

A reminder you’re looking for Marco Fu’s opponent in his first match at the Crucible, which we established was in 1999.

It was not the erstwhile children’s TV presenter Dave Benson Phillips, no; though I believe there was a middle ranking pro’ named Dave Benson Hedges who cropped up from time to time in the last century.

You may have a clue as I have my benevolent hat on today. The answer you are looking for is a former professional snooker player.

It was not he, nor his counterpart Doug Mountjoy, who never played Marco Fu as a professional (and probably not as an amateur either).

I'm trying to think of former professional players that played in 1999 world championship. I'm not sure if David Gray played in the main world championship that year but it's worth a shout.

Gray qualified in 1998 & 2000. In 1999, he fell at the last 96 stage to Stephen O’Connor.
He played Fu twice as a pro, but never at the Crucible.
