I know he was still an active pro’ when Big Break started, and I think Big Break started in ‘92.
Let’s split the difference : 1995?

Name the player :
Born in Glasgow in 1971, I was a professional through most of the nineties
I was perhaps best known as being the regular practice partner of Stephen Hendry
My best Ranking performances were two last 16 finishes, at the Welsh Open in 1994 - where I beat Ronnie O’Sullivan before losing to Steve Davis - and the 1997 British Open, when Hendry beat me in a decider.
My highest Ranking was 59 (1994/95)
In more recent years, I have played on the Seniors circuit.
Who am I?

‘Fraid not, Henry hit much higher heights than that - he got to three Ranking semi-finals and no.18 in the World Rankings - had they used the current ‘rollover’ system, he would have probably been a top 16er at several points.

Paul McPhillips has an all-time ranking of 264. Just above him in 263rd is a Canadian who reached the Semi finals of the 1991 European Open.
Who is the Canadian?

A Canadian whose era was perhaps earlier than the player we're looking for. Wych also had a lot more success than our guy, at least in the pro snooker ranks.

Not the Outlaw, no - he’s been to Ranking finals, the semi-finals at the Crucible (twice) and comfortably in the top 16.
Although … our man’s best run in a Ranker was ended by Joe Swail…
