9. is indeed The Stone Roses. 2. isn't Aretha Franklin, but it's a good guess. This artist is "related" to Aretha, however (note inverted commas; I'll explain this unnecessarily cryptic clue later).

Correct! When Whitney was eight, she met Aretha on a visit to a recording studio and Aretha became, in her own words, "a sort of honorary aunt".

Probably time for a couple of clues.

6. is by a very successful 1970s band (three UK no. 1 singles, although this track isn't one of those). One of their four members was previously in a successful 1960s band, while another was a very prolific hit songwriter (responsible for the Yardbirds' "For Your Love", "Bus Stop" by the Hollies, "No Milk Today" by Herman's Hermits, among many others). The other two members went on to be an extremely successful video production team in the 1980s, as well as having hits of their own.

8. is by a prolific (their forthcoming album will be their twenty-second since their formation in 1982) group who can probably be conservatively described as "quirky". Their first four albums were recorded as a duo, before expanding the line-up to a full band for the fifth and subsequent releases. Although never particularly successful in terms of record sales, they have always retained a loyal fanbase. They were briefly back in the charts in 2001 with their theme tune to a classic early-2000s sitcom.

Very good!

4. Barbara Ann - Beach Boys (LDS)

6. I'm Mandy Fly Me - 10cc (Krazeeeyezkilla)

8. Ana Ng - They Might Be Giants (Krazeeeyezkilla)
9. Sally Cinnamon - Stone Roses (Prop)
10. If U Seek Amy - Britney Spears (Juddernaut)

And that double-whammy means you win this one comparatively easily (6 points, to Juddernaut's 2, with Happycamper, LDS and Prop on 1 point each).

Your turn...

Yeah, upon reflection I was thinking about the lyrics in My Generation.

Probably where Oasis got the title. The way it's said is a bit like how Liam Gallagher song.

The start of Fade Away (Oasis) sounds remarkably like the start of Freedom by Wham!

Nos. 2 and 5 are bugging me. I know I know them but just can't dredge the info out of my brain. Ah well, off to bed now. Maybe the answers will come to me in a dream.

I genuinely love Definitely Maybe, but let's face it, pretty much all the tracks were ripped off from something else.

[edit] oh wait, I'm thinking of Slide Away, aren't I? Fade Away really does sound like Freedom though.
