A very popular bespectacled gentleman wins his only world title. The vanquished heavy-favourite has few words in defeat. The match itself is still revered 36 years later.

Identify that match! :chin:

Best of 7 match in a ranking event between 2 legends in there mid 40s.
One of the players raced into a 3-0 lead, had a chance to win 4-0 but missed a red, His opponent won 4 frames in a row to win 4-3.

A former World runner-up defeats the current incumbent; he takes five frames in a row to overturn an interval deficit in the process.

IDENTIFY THAT MATCH!

Re: Identify That Match!

This is certainly a tricky one that will require a lot of thinking.

Re: Identify That Match!

I should point out that it was not, I repeat, NOT a World Championship matache. It was in a major tournament though.

Could it be Ding Junhui vs John Higgins? I think Ding won 6-5 after trailing 5-0. Possibly 2016 or 2017. I forgot the tournament though.

A good effort; you’re thinking of the 2017 Players Championship, in which Ding came from 0-4 to win 5-4. However, Higgins was not the reigning World Champion at the time.

Oh jeez. Forgot about this <doh>

Very recent.

You have probably blotted this out from your memory banks, Judders. You probably needed counselling in the immediate aftermath of this encounter…

You may as well post the answer and post a new question. I don't think anyone is getting this.

Gosh, you really have blotted it out.

Ranking event semi final. Player A is leading 4-3 and is 64 points ahead with 51 remaining in the 8th frame. Player B ends up getting the 4 snookers and wins the frame and goes on to win the match 6-4.

Very good question Judders. I think I should know such an occasion, but can't quite figure it out right now...

Re: Identify That Match!

Postby Juddernaut88

Clue player A is a player that has won 3 ranking titles in his career. Player B at the time hadn't won a ranking title.

Ryan Day v Mark King?

I believe King once got 4 snookers v Day... but ranking semi-final? Not sure...

Re: Identify That Match!

Postby Andre147

I knew Day once got 4 snookers... let me think about it a bit more.
