Ranking final in the late 2000's Player A had already clinched his first ranking title earlier in the season and was in the top 16. Player B was the slight underdog. Player B led 8-6 but wasn't able to hold his nerve and ended up losing 9-8.
Player A has gone onto have a decent career so far, Player B has still yet to win a ranking title.

Two multi-decorated legends square off in a Ranking Event qualifier; the older man, seemingly on an irreversible downward slide, rolls back the years to whitewash his younger opponent - seemingly at the peak of his powers.

Identify that match! :chin:

In the 1980s, a former snooker professional player unexpectedly scored a session whitewash against a World Champion from the same decade. Who was the player who scored the whitewash?

Tony Knowles vs Steve Davis 1982 world championship 1st round? I know Tony Knowles won 10-1, he may have won the 1st session without dropping a frame but I'm probably wrong.

Empire State Human had a pretty good guess, but the match in question involved two players from the overseas, and Dennis had not won the World Championship yet. The match happened in the late 1980s.

When I say that Dennis had not won the World Championship, it was only won in that final against Steve Davis, so that guess, albeit good, is not correct, unfourtanetely.

Ok, another clue: this match occured in the year where Joe Johnson reached his second consecutive final at the World Championship.

Ahh!!! O’Kane bashed up Thorburn from 1-5 down without further loss. So assuming the opening session frames were all completed, he’d have ended 4-5 and then won the second session 6-0.

Yes!!! It was that match exactly, as Dene O'Kane won the second session 6-0 against Cliff Thorburn (and winning 9 consecutive frames in total!) Over to you Badtempered Cyril :)
