PLref can have it though and ask the next question as he identified the player and the year and that it was a qualifier.
I'll get the consolation bonus point and a bottle of coke though :ok:

I'll wait till this evening. If PLref doesn't ask a question by say 8pm then I'll ask one.

I'll ask a question then to keep things moving.
This should be easy, first Crucible final to finish with a session to spare.

Not that match, there was one before that.

Then it must be the 1983 World Final, Davis v Thorburn?

This player won a final frame decider and the title after requiring penalty points (a snooker) to win.

Higgins v Williams in the UK 2010 or White v Thorburn in the Mercentile Credit Classic in 1986. Both were finals whereby the decider was won after needing one or more snookers, can't remember how many Higgins needed.

Nigel Bond 9-8 John Higgins in the 1996 British Open also fits the criteria :chin:

No but you’re in the right decade...

I know the answer to this... Alex Higgins v Steve Davis at the Worlds wasn't it? 1983?

Re: Identify That Match!

Postby SnookerEd25

No it wasn’t; one of the players is correct though...

I think I remember now... 1980 World Final, Higgins v Thorburn?

You got it; the BBC switchboard is jammed with complaints when they switch to live coverage of the SAS storming the Iranian embassy after a four day siege. The snooker is soon restored, and the siege is relegated to BBC2

One of my earliest wataching memories, that <ok>

Last ever match of this great referee, and what a match it was, a classic Crucible Final. Name the match and the referee.

Complete guess, John Williams and the 2002 final.

Correct guess, his final ever professional match as a referee.

bucking hell, that was a pure punt. The classic match was the giveaway; 1994 seemed a bit early from the little I know of Williams.

Will think of a question between sessions if that’s okay with everyone.
