The Q School will get rid of some but others will be back next season.....

that is a far fairer system than before.

Yes too right Wild - it was very unfair that players who dropped off tour were guaranteed a year away with no chance for a bounce back sometimes at the expense of a poorer player taking their place.

How come Wattana needs to reach the crucible when he's in 66th place and therefore only needs to climb 2 places? I don't know the points allocation but that stands out a bit

87 Issara Kachaiwong 11190 SLIM CHANCE OF MAKING TOP 8

Slim chance? I know we've got a new points tally, but I strongly doubt he'll be a top 8 player any time soon. <laugh>

Wattana will get a further 500 points if he reaches the final qualifying round whitch would put him on 16,435 still out of the top 64 if he reaches the crucible he would be on 16,935 and above mcCulloch whos 60th at the moment

Think they will be finding a few problems along the way with who stays and who goes and what is the right method of deciding who is in and who is out. Think a definate number should go by finishing at the bottom, regardless of who they are. But play-offs would add a bit of sudden death - especially if you made it from number 9 down

if they are that bad that they finish bottom of the rankings they will not come back anyway via Q School i think everyone should be given a chance via Q School

Lisowski now up to 48th provisionally after todays win.

Him, JJ, Ants, Xiao Chuang and Mick White have few points to defend next year so we should hopefully see all these talents rise up the rankings quick. A new era is starting.

Dissapointed that Wilson will drop off despite winning a heck of a lot more points than Igor.

to be honest all this list indicates now is how many points a player got to defend in 2012/2013.

Whilst true, this list does far more than that Wild and i thought youd have been clued up enough to work it out as one of the minority who understands how the new rankings set up works. rofl

1) The obvious one is that it tells us who the best performers have been this season so when people spout things like Trumps had a crap season they want to actually look at things properly. <ok>

2) Under the old system this one year list would start next season as the provisional end of season list, obviously this isnt the case now but this list still effectively becomes the end of next season list with next seasons points added on so if you look at players like Ronnie and Hendry who are well down this list, its an indicator of the projected ranking they would end up around at end of next season if they have a similar season to this.

With the 4 rankings cut off points before the end next season someone like Ronnie is in a provisional theory, going to drop from 10th to 45th over these windows so hes going to be continually facing a fight next season to stay in the elite with masses of points compared to others around him to drop off, plus hes lumbered with this seasons poor tally in his overall total.

Next season the true effect of the rolling rankings and also the PTC points will dramatically kick in and the revolution of the game will truly start to take effect once we have 2 full seasons of points tallied up on this basis.

Players are going to have to get used to the way these rankings work and especially the relevance of playing and taking the PTC seriously.

This ranking list is based on points earned this season so its down there in black and white and the rankings dont lie as they say, so who can truly argue that Bingham doesnt deserve to be number 7 on the list. As ive said elsewhere i expected the rankings to start looking really different for a period next season and i fully expect Ronnie to drop out of the top 16 (Hendry also a certainty IMO ) but maybe it will take this shock to the system to kick these guys into life. At the start of this season the big names had a cushion and luxury to pick and chose what they played but the guys who didnt, its coming back to haunt some of them now.

Allen slated the PTC then around October he was suddenly on the verge of dropping out of the top 16 so suddenly he zipped his lip and showed up playing them.

Players like Selby Maguire Murphy etc deserve praise for playing in virtually all the PTC events and being very professional in their attitude, snooker is there liveliehood after all and i guess that reflects in their positions on this list.

Take the PDC darts for example, they have a PTC set up there (which Hearn obviously had used as a blueprint for snooker) but all the big guns including Taylor play in these, even though they arent televised.

As for the PTC i really think they need to scrap the Sheffield behind closed doors events as they serve little purpose other than competitive practice, id like to see the UK events taken around the country to arenas or qualifiers held at the Academy and say, 32 players taken to a tournament at a weekend.

One last point though, i do see your point to an extent Wild and see where your coming from. I do feel that the World Championship and UK Champs ranking tariffs have to be upped to make them stand out more from the rest of the seasons events. Id make the UK 10,000 to winner and probably around 12,500 for the World Champs winner.

The ranking list at the next cut-off point, after the WC, will be exactly the same as it would have been under the old ranking system. So if we are speaking relegation, nothing has changed except for the introduction of the PTCs. People will not be relegated - or avoid it - because of the new rolling system, they will be, or not, because of their results and their commitment to the new PTCs series.
To me the current ranking list does not reflect the players form or their actual "ranking" in terms of the quality of their game. It reflects more about their commitment to play in every event. Reasons why some haven't done that vary from individual to individual. Whether those who suffered from their own lack of commitment will change their minds, I'm not sure. We'll see. Whether all those who did commit will continue to do so I'm not sure neither. EPTCs in particular cost a lot to the players who go out early and the reward is very low. I've heard some who did play in all or about all admit that it had created private problems with their family, or that they felt exhausted. Those events are very "intense" and snooker requires a lot of mental energy while offering little release of the nervous tension through action.
Next season calendar will be even more hectic. I'm not sure it's a good thing.
And don't come up with comparisons with tennis or golf. In those sports the contenders earn a lot more, really a LOT more, than in snooker and they can pick and choose. In snooker the state of the current ranking shows that players can't really pick and choose because contrary to tennis for instance all results count for ranking, while in tennis a number of majors are mandatory and then a pre-determined number of "best results" from a huge number of available tournaments are added. In snooker that would be the equivalent of having a number of mandatory majors and then taking, for instance, the 3 best PTC/EPTC results ...
