Since the Welsh Open victory in 2008, Mark Selby has now reached a fifth ranking semi-final (China,Shanghai 2008, World, Shanghai 2010, Germany 2011) but failed to turn any of them into a final. Can he do so this time ? And how much pressure is he under to do so and live up to the standards he set three years ago when he looked a viable candidate to be one of the dominant forces of the next ten years ?

He is a tournament winner, even if he's only won one ranker. They don't give Masters out to any old plebs. I don't suppose he's under any more pressure then anybody else. It's people like Mark Allen who've never won a title who suffer from it worse, I would imagine. That and Judd Trump who has won a couple of matches in his career, but is being touted on the internet as the future of snooker.

This is nothing to do with Allen or Trump, this is about Selby.

bucking hell. Okay. To answer your questions then.
Can he do so this time ?He certainly has the ability to do it, but Graeme Dott is going to be a tough game. (Sorry for mentioning another player, master, but he is playing Selby later.)
And how much pressure is he under to do so and live up to the standards he set three years ago when he looked a viable candidate to be one of the dominant forces of the next ten years ?None.
Hope that's better.

Exactly but it's all very well doing it in the early stages of tournaments or in non-ranking event exho type tournaments, but this is where greats are judged, the next 36 hours of his career. He HAS to be winning these tournaments IMO.

Great Players play better as the tournament goes on how many times has Hendry,Ronnie,Williams and Higgins Crawled over the line against nobodies in the First Round and go on to play Brilliant Snooker at the Buisness End against Better players.
thats the key to success.

selby definitely got the ability and mental strength to go on and win more ranking titles no doubt about that and i also dont think he under any additional pressure for losing his last five ranking semi finals i would agree without trying to start a conflict it is indeed people like mark allen judd trump who may feel more pressure as they never reached a ranking final especially allen who reached six semi finals that can be a burden doubts can start creeping in especially when things not going well in a semi final
but selby this tournament last four he has every chance of beating dott tonight then either williams or fu in the final and dont count him out of the world championships whatever happens in this tournament
twice masters champion and over the longer matches he has reached the world and uk final also he not scared of playing ronnie knows exactly what to do against him as he proved in their last two meetings the masters final and world quarter final
