Interesting tournament, will be intriguing, not one for the purist, but would be unfair to call a tournament without watching it, - the line up is interesting. One thing I will say however is that this tournament will be made or broke by the event in Blackpool - Blackpool in January is questionable? - The UK was moved away from the Tower when it was first held in 1977.

The problem for me is that if we dont have an established name winning the tournament, one thats known to most faces then intrest may switch off.

the Mercantile Credit Classic was held in blackpool during the late 80s early 90s the opening day of the tournament was first Saturday in January.

i went there twice to the final 1989 Doug Mountjoy v Wayne Jones and in 1990 Steve James v Waren King the attendances was great for the finals but the advantage was they were played in a hotel so you could book a room and watch the snooker without getting fresh air or in Blackpool case in january blustry gale force air.

the streets was deserted you couldn't walk in a straight line to save your life.

so the weather will definitely be playing a major role in who goes or attempts to go to the circus arena.

Does it matter who wins? Are you implying there is some prestige in winning it? It's not exactly the title every player wants on their CV then?

i wont say wont win because i think any of the 64 could win.

over 10 minute surely the poorest of players can dominate 10 minute worth of match.

Yes, me. He's rarely quick out of the blocks, often needs a couple of frames to settle, was knocked out first round in the only pot black he played in. So I can't see him winning this even if the shot clock might be a saving grace. But 15 seconds ... that's really very short for anyone.

I thought it was 20 seconds. If it's 15 then I'm off to the bank to draw out my savings and place on the Rocket. This is his event.

Ronnie all the way for me. Mind you he's got his work cut out if Fu enters the mode he was in at 4-1 down to Allen and 6-2 to Ding.

I thought that Andy Goldstein said it was 15 seconds, and 10 seconds?

I've actually been asked to visit friends this weekend. I am wondering whether to go, and miss this and enjoy myself. Or stay and watch this out of morbid curiousity, just so if it's rubbish I can go; "Yeah, that didn't look like my sort of thing, to be honest." rofl
