When was the last time there was a decent match on day 1 of the World Championships? Hallett v Taylor? <laugh>

Here is King's first round matches since he regained his top 16 spot

McManus - Northern Ireland Trophy lost 5-3
White - Shanghai Masters - lost 5-0 to Selby in R2
Parrott - Grand Prix lost 5-3
Lee - Bahrain lost 5-3
Trump - UK - lost 9-5 to Lee in R2
Walden - Masters lost 6-2
Harold - Welsh - Lost 5-2 to Murphy in R2
Williams - China - Lost 5-2 to Day in R2
Mcleod - World - Lost 13-7 to Maguire in R2
Walden - Shanghai lost 5-2 (Had to qualify)
Walden - Grand Prix - lost 5-1 to Milkins in R2
Hamilton - UK - lost 9-3 to Liang in R2
White - Masters - lost 6-4 to Maguire in R1
Campbell - Welsh

Looking at that it is extraordinary that he is in the top 16 still.

and provisionally 10th? :chin:

He was moaning about having to qualify for Shanghai wasn't he? But he must've bagged more ranking points for a round 1 loss. Surely he's going to start getting some tougher openers sooner or later...

Nice stats Alex. I never rated King too highly...I was alwas annoyed that he was a top-16 player, and the likes of Cope, Trump, Stevens, Wenbo & Walden aren't. But I suppose that's not Mark's fault, and it's up to those boys to earn their spot.

But looking at those results, you wonder HOW he has earned it...

Unless the season before he regained his top 16 spot he had a rubbish load of good performances which would've carried the points forward for the next 2 seasons.

It is really surprising when you look at those results and you consider how Doherty and Dott fell away so quickly after winning tournaments and now Fu looks set to follow.

it just goes to show how bucking useless Doherty and Williams was to drop out of the top 16.

I wouldn't say Dott is in trouble considering he started at 28. As a fan I am not expecting him to get back into the 16 this season but set himself up for it next season. He does have a nice draw for the World Championships though so could pick up some points there.
