Re: Ronnie to have own snooker show on Eurosport

I completely sympathize with the players having to pay a lot out of pocket but I can't see it ever changing.

In all my years of play I've never once been involved in or even heard of a tournament with a payout structure rewarding a first round loss.

What do you all think?

I do think he speaks a lot of sense there, and the Tennis and Golf examples are good ones, but Snooker as we all know isn't in that level of recognision as those 2 sports are.

But so far I've enjoyed reading this new eurosport blog from Ronnie.

Interesting stuff. Ronnie talks a lot of sense these days.
With this blog and especially with the ROS tv show Ronnie's becoming a great ambassador for the game.

At the end of the day the pros have to pay entry fees so from that alone it wouldn't make sense to give them more than the entry fee if they go out in round 1.

in Barry Hearn defense he did state from day 1 he wont reward mediocrity and unless you win your fare share of first round matches sorry but that is Mediocrity.

Anyone know what percentage of a prize pool is comprised of entry fees?

Typically a tournament with only entry fees to work on and a field of 128 will only start paying out at last 32.

As you add sponsor money you can extend it a bit but the idea is to reward winners in a sport. Personally I'd be annoyed as hell if they paid out a player who didn't win a thing and that money came off the cheques of those who played and won.

The alternative would be to raise the prize money for reaching the last 64. Only winners would be rewarded and players who often lose in the first round can compensate by earning more money once they finally reach the next round in an event.

Yeah, I agree. Another thing we have to thank Dr Peters for.

Nice to read btw that he wants to play in the China Open next year. But obviously you never know with him and what he will be thinking at that time. Would be nice for the Chinese fans and it's time for Ronnie to win a title in China again. Generally I hope, he will be playing more in China for the future.

Of course he gets paid. That doesn't mean he doesn't love the game. I suppose you work for free?

Yes, I am a charity worker these days. I have enough to take me to my grave.

It doesn't really matter who is 'presenting' it could be Davis it could be Hendry - the fact is they'd do it for the same reasons (whatever they are) as Ronnie, but Ron got the gig because like him or loathe him he is box office, the biggest thing in snooker at this moment.

Hopefully the show is great and the fact it's Ronnie headlining I think is actually missing the point as I don't think it's going to be a ROS centric series. And if it is - even better :chuckle:

Talking about missing the point.. There´s a joke that when a mathematician takes a holiday in the Canary Islands, what does he take with him on a plane ?

A bomb.

That´s because he figures that it´s an extremely, an extremely unlikely, a basically impossible that there would a two bombs on a one plane. So instead of taking a life insurance from a travel agency he does that.

Anyone here who watched the show yesterday. IMO The interview with Jimmy was the best interview so far in the show.

Interesting as well that Jimmy thinks that standardwise the game of today isnt really better than in the past. This corresponds well with all those opinons here who said that the Top 8 of 15 years ago were the strongest.

Jimmy said also that Hendry and Ronnie took the game to a next level.

I enjoyed this episode very much, that Jimmy interview was something special, they focused on important points.

And for those still thinking it's all centered on Ronnie, well I can tell you it isnt, far from it, he interviewed Rennae Evans and a show like this also helps develop the promotion of the ladies snooker game, something that isn't explored that much.
